What Is WPM?
WPM stands for words per minute. It is a common way to describe typing speed by converting the amount of text entered during a measured period into a comparable rate.
How WPM Is Used
WPM gives a simple way to compare typing speed across tests of different lengths. A one-minute test can report WPM directly, while a longer test converts the completed work into a per-minute rate.
WPM Does Not Replace Accuracy
A high speed result can be misleading if it contains frequent mistakes. WPM is most useful when reviewed together with accuracy and error count.
Why WPM Can Change Between Tests
Text difficulty, test length, mistakes, concentration and typing rhythm can all influence a result. Several comparable attempts usually provide more context than one unusually fast or slow score.
